Alt.Binaries.Pictures is web-based Usenet pictures. More importantly, it is a usable and comfortable interface to browse, filter, sort, and download your favorite picture newsgroups.

The traditional method of accessing newsgroup pictures is to download an entire newsgroup (or guess what to download based on the subject), wait for a few hundred or thousand pictures to download, then come back and sort them manually, deleting what you do not want. This is usually most of what you downloaded. It simply is not efficient or as pleasant as it really should be.

Alt.Binaries.Pictures resolves these traditional issues with Usenet pictures. You view the thumbnails online, without downloading the whole images. You choose how you sort & filter, view the posters you like and ignore the ones you don't. You can even search for your favorite posters, even search across all picture newsgroups.

Poster Searching

Poster searching is a completely new and exclusive capability with Alt.Binaries.Pictures. It completely changes the way you are able to view picture newsgroups and follow your favorite posters, or discover content from new posters in other newsgroups. You can perform an open search for a poster's name and see what newsgroups they posted to and how many pictures they posted, as well as link directly to view only their content in that newsgroup. Perhaps more empowering, when you are browsing and see a new poster that you like, you can click and immediately see what they have posted to other newsgroups.

Favorites/Bookmarks

Access starts with the full newsgroup list, which is searchable. As you find newsgroups that you like, you can add them to your favorites list. As you go through newsgroups, download pictures, search, etc., this favorites list is available on every page. Jumping from one newsgroup to another favorite is easy and immediate.

Viewing Options

The usenet picture interface was designed to put all possible useful information at your fingertips. The newsgroup searching options go to the heart of this ideal, with viewing options making it usable, efficient, and intuitive.

Every display possibility is available with Alt Binaries Pictures. Select to view newest or oldest newsgroup pictures first. Exclude pictures under the minimum size you set, to only view higher quality images. Select to view 20 to 200 pictures per page, and with the thumbnail size you specify. However you choose to view pictures on Usenet, 880 viewing combinations puts everything at your fingertips.

Filtering

Filtering with Alt Binaries Pictures is also something that was not previously feasible with the traditional method of accessing usenet pictures. Slightly different than the poster searching features above which let you see what someone has posted across all newsgroups, you can also filter the newsgroup you are currently viewing to display only the posts of the user (or users) that you like in that newsgroup. You can also block users as you go, to filter our pictures from users that do not post what you like.

Example 1: You notice two series of pictures that you like, by different users. You select one picture from each series, then select to only view pictures by those users. You will then only see what those users posted for that newsgroup, in your chosen date range. If you would like to see more of their pictures in other newsgroups, just select to view more by that poster and you will see what they have posted across all picture newsgroups, listing each newsgroup and how many pictures they posted to each newsgroup. Click the group to view only their pictures in that newsgroup.

Example 2: You are browsing a picture newsgroup that you normally view but run across a series that is many pages long and not interesting. Just select one of the pictures and select to block the user. All of their newsgroup posts will be filtered out and no longer shown for that session. If you run across other posters that you would like to filter, just do the same.

Proprietary SPAM Control

The newsgroup picture interface was designed exclusively by Alt Binaries, allowing us to employ spam control measures that were not previously possible with usenet pictures, or with usenet newsgroups. Due to the massive load placed on usenet servers, the only way to employ effective spam control measures is to have complete control of the architecture from the ground up. Alt Binaries Pictures employs one of the most effective spam control systems on usenet, while critically not filtering valid non-junk content from usenet.
